3 Keys to Move Forward Through the Fall Season

Now, in the final quarter of 2023, one may be feeling more anxious about what has not been accomplished or what can be achieved in the coming weeks. Vacillating between disappointment or anxiety may be OK for a short time, however, ultimately, it’s essential to determine priorities. This means releasing certain expectations and reaffirming commitments to move forward, doing so with ease and grace.

Release Worry and Stress

Although one cannot change conditions or circumstances, one can change attitudes towards them. One can also implement proven stress-release strategies and self-care practices to manage stress more effectively.

  1. Notice stress signals and become aware of your reactions to stress.
  2. Learn to say “No,” “No, thank you”, and “No, not at this time” graciously and often to maintain healthy boundaries for yourself.
  3. Avoid reading, watching, or listening to mainstream news. It can often create anger or depression that is emotionally stifling.
  4. Tend to your personal, family, and work-related priorities. Avoid or minimize procrastination that can lead to overwhelm or paralysis.
  5. East healthy meals daily; that is fresh, organic, live foods. Eliminate and/or minimize processed foods.
  6. Exercise consistently; cardio like brisk walking, swimming, bicycling, tennis, and pickleball, as well as hatha yoga, qigong, or tai chi.
  7. Practice relaxation techniques daily, such as deep breathing, mindfulness meditation, visualization, and progressive muscle relaxation.
