The theme of “Know Thyself” has recently come up for me in two different arenas; the Kemet Nu Know Thyself Educational Tour in Egypt and Know Thy Self Adinkra Cards with symbols that originate in West Africa and convey traditional Afrikan wisdom, that I pull to see the quality for the day!

Self-knowledge is a lifelong journey of self-inquiry, self-discovery and self-acceptance. Furthermore, self-knowledge is also directly tied to life purpose or soul’s calling. Why were you born and what are you on earth to be or do?

You continue to learn more about yourself; your beliefs and values, preferences and dislikes too. For those over 55 who’ve pursued your education, raised a family, worked in the corporate or public sector, or managed your own business:

• What are your gifts, those attributes that you were born with or simply come easy to you?
• In what ways are you sharing your gifts, particularly in your elder years?

Through your family, career or business, you’ve also developed skills and talents; perhaps even developed mastery. Mastery in the arts, technology, spirituality, health and healing, world affairs…The point I want to make is that if your children are grown, you’ve retired or perhaps separated from your partner, or you’re simply in a place of transition, and healthy, you still have something of value to share!

• Are you involved or open to be involved in continuing education, an active senior center or program that engages or stretches you in BodyMindSpirit?
• In what ways do you function as a ‘wise elder’ sharing your unique skills and talents with younger generations, individually or in groups?

To Know Thyself is an evolutionary journey, an adventure! As I reflect on my purpose and work in the world at this time, I’m experimenting with how best to describe myself. For a short while, I’ve referred to myself as a Soul’s Calling Activist. However, now I want to call myself a SoulKhemist, (Soul Alchemist) who liberates mature women to fulfill their Soul’s Calling and purpose in the world. Please tell me what you think:
