Now that Thanksgiving is over, we’re seeing more homes and businesses displaying holiday decorations. And for some the “consumer craze” continues.
Yet protests across the country are hopefully generating the opportunity for us to consciously reflect on our values; what we’re choosing to invest in or consume; as well as how we support or don’t support institutions and systems that perpetuate exploitation and inequity.
This time has given me an opportunity to explore the true meaning of the Holy Day season and re-dedicate myself to demonstrating love, faith, gratitude and peace.
- How are you acknowledging the Holy Day season?
- In what ways are you using more discernment or discipline with this season’s expenditures?
- Is this a time to initiate new traditions that honor the transition of Autumn to Winter?
To provide respite and relief from the multiple demands of the season, particularly if your desire to connect with others is stronger during the holidays, consider these additional tips:
- When gathering with family or close friends, make it a potluck or go to a restaurant and ask everyone to chip in on the tab.
- Give gift certificates, handmade gifts or exchange things you’ve never used or no longer use. It’s a gift for the new recipient.
- Engage in community service or volunteer at a church or shelter to make a positive difference for others – it will boost your level of gratitude as well!
Finally, remember that daily BodyMindSpirit Self-Care Practices are essential to maintain your alignment, balance and peace of mind.
